Objective of the Event:
- To observe World Environment Day through a community-oriented cleanliness drive.
- To promote environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal practices.
- To encourage students to actively participate in community service.
- To create awareness regarding the indiscriminate use and improper disposal of plastic materials in public spaces.
Brief Description of the Event:
The Environmental Development Committee (EDC), in collaboration with the NSS Unit of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, organized the “Clean Elgin Initiative” on 10 June 2026 to observe World Environment Day. The programme was conducted along Elgin Road from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
A team comprising six faculty members, including five members of the Environmental Development Committee (EDC) and the NSS Programme Officer of the College, along with 14 student volunteers, actively participated in the cleanliness drive. The participants cleaned the surrounding area and collected waste from public spaces, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
During the cleanliness drive, a considerable amount of plastic waste and other non-biodegradable materials were found scattered along the roadside and adjoining areas. The activity highlighted the continuing challenge of improper waste disposal in urban spaces and underscored the need for greater public awareness and collective responsibility towards maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
Outcome of the Event:
- Elgin Road and its surrounding areas were cleaned.
- Participants gained practical exposure to environmental conservation through direct community engagement.
- The programme fostered a sense of civic responsibility among students and encouraged active participation in initiatives aimed at promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
