Brief description of the event:
The Environmental Development Committee (EDC), in collaboration with the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), The Bhawanipur Education Society College, organised a special screening of Code Red: The Sunderbans on 28 July 2026 in observance of World Nature Conservation Day. The programme was attended by students and faculty members. The one-hour documentary drew attention to climate change and the ecological challenges confronting the Sundarbans. The screening was followed by an engaging interactive session with Mr. Suman Mukhopadhyay, Director of the documentary, and Dr. Jayanta Basu, who was responsible for its Concept and Research. Students participated actively in the discussion and raised questions on documentary filmmaking, environmental journalism, climate change and the future of the Sundarbans. The resource persons shared their experiences and perspectives, making the programme an enriching academic and environmental-awareness initiative.

Outcome of the event:
The programme enhanced awareness of the ecological vulnerability of the Sundarbans and the wider implications of climate change. It enabled students to connect classroom learning in Documentary Filmmaking and Environmental Journalism with a contemporary environmental issue. The interactive session encouraged critical questioning and offered participants first-hand insights into the research, journalistic engagement and filmmaking processes. The event also reinforced the importance of collective action towards nature conservation and environmental sustainability.
