The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) organised Kridangan 2026- an inter-college indoor sports fest on 29 August 2026 to celebrate National Sports Day and pay tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. Bringing together students from BESC and several other colleges, the event celebrated sporting talent, fitness, determination and the spirit of healthy competition.
The day began at 8:30 A.M. with a Surya Namaskar session led by Ms. Rekha Sen, who has more than 16 years of experience in yoga therapy, naturopathy and physiotherapy, along with Mr. Raunak Matalia, who has seven years of experience in yoga therapy. Students from BESC and visiting colleges participated in the session, setting an energetic tone for the day. This was followed by an address by Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, and the morning proceedings concluded with the singing of Vande Mataram. The sporting competitions then began, featuring Carrom, Chess, Darts, Pool, Arm Wrestling, Table Tennis and Rifle Shooting.
The Carrom competition consisted of five rounds and saw participation from BESC, Sarsuna Law College, Ashutosh College, Shyama Prasad College, Jaipuria College, Sister Nivedita University, Techno India, Shri Shikshayatan College, Heramba Chandra College and Ananda Mohan College. Sarsuna Law College emerged as the winner.
The Chess competition featured three rounds for both male and female participants. In the men’s category, BESC secured first place, while Ashutosh College finished second. In the women’s category, BESC secured both first and second positions.
The Darts competition followed a three-round format in both categories, with BESC, Shyama Prasad College and Shri Shikshayatan College featuring among the winners.
In the Pool competition, Shri Shikshayatan College won the women’s category, with BESC OTSE as the runner-up. The men’s category was won by BESC, followed by another participant from BESC.
The Arm-Wrestling competition featured multiple weight categories and was judged by Treasurer Meher Mohan, General Secretary Smritimay Das, Tushar Yadav and Suryash Singh. The men’s heavyweight category was won by Sarsuna Law College, while Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College emerged victorious in the lightweight category. BESC won the men’s middleweight category. In the women’s categories, BESC won the lightweight category, while Taradevi Harakhchand Kankaria Jain College secured the heavyweight title.
In Table Tennis, BESC won the men’s category, with BESC OTSE as the runner-up. The women’s category was won by BESC, followed by another participant from BESC.
The final event of the day was Rifle Shooting. BESC secured both first and second positions in the men’s category. In the women’s category, BESC emerged as the winner, with Sister Nivedita University as the runner-up.
Kridangan 2026 concluded on a high note, with students displaying skill, determination and sportsmanship across every event. By bringing together participants from BESC and colleges across the city, the event served as a fitting celebration of National Sports Day and highlighted the importance of sporting excellence alongside academic growth.
