With nearly five decades of experience in creative photography, he has received recognition for more than 1,000 photographs in national and international exhibitions. His works have been published internationally, including in editions of National Geographic. His area of specialization is creative photography and photography appreciation.

Objective of the Event: The workshop was organised on the occasion of World Photography Day to introduce students to photography as a form of visual expression and communication. It aimed to develop their ability to see, understand, interpret and appreciate photographs beyond the technical act of taking a picture, while providing an opportunity to interact with an experienced photography professional.

Brief Description of the Event: The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication organised a Workshop on Photography Appreciation on 19 August 2026 to mark World Photography Day. The session was conducted by Mr. Atanu Paul, Founder of Third Eye, whose long association with creative photography and extensive national and international recognition provided the context for an engaging discussion on the medium. The programme began with an introduction to World Photography Day and the resource person, followed by the felicitation of Mr. Atanu Paul and his team. During the workshop, Mr. Paul guided the participants in looking at photographs with greater attention to visual meaning, composition, observation and artistic expression. Through photographs, examples and interaction, the session encouraged students to approach photography not merely as image-making but as a creative and communicative practice. Participants were also given an opportunity to interact with the resource person. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the end of the programme.

Outcome of the Event: The workshop helped participants develop a more thoughtful and critical approach to viewing photographs. It enhanced their understanding of photography as both an artistic practice and a medium of visual communication. The interaction with an experienced practitioner encouraged them to engage more closely with this visual form.
