Objective of the Activity:
The objective of the programme was to provide wholesome food to underprivileged, homeless, and elderly individuals across different parts of Kolkata. The initiative also aimed to sensitize student volunteers to the challenges faced by marginalized communities while fostering values of compassion, teamwork, and social responsibility.
Brief Description of the Activity:
The NSS Unit of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized “Seva Sandwich 2025” on 25th September 2025, a sandwich distribution drive dedicated to serving underprivileged and homeless sections of society across Kolkata. A team of 20 NSS volunteers actively participated in the preparation, packing, and distribution of sandwiches at various locations throughout the city.
A total of 880 sandwiches were distributed across five locations: Ballygunge (120 sandwiches), Kalighat (120 sandwiches), St. Joseph’s Old Age Home (160 sandwiches), the Hastings area under the bridge (470 sandwiches), and the College area (10 sandwiches). Beyond distributing food, the volunteers engaged in meaningful conversations with the beneficiaries, particularly the elderly residents of St. Joseph’s Old Age Home, fostering a sense of warmth, dignity, and human connection. The initiative highlighted the importance of empathy and community service while addressing the immediate nutritional needs of vulnerable populations.
Outcome of the Activity:
The programme successfully reached approximately 880 beneficiaries, providing them with nutritious food and emotional support. The activity strengthened the spirit of volunteerism, teamwork, and social consciousness among the participating NSS volunteers. Through direct interaction with beneficiaries, the volunteers developed a deeper understanding of social inequalities and the importance of community outreach. Seva Sandwich 2025 effectively demonstrated how collective efforts and simple acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
