An outreach programme was organized by the Women’s Cell in collaboration with the Sociology Department of The Bhawanipur Education Society College on 14th March, 2020 at Shanti Rani Rainbow Home, Bansdroni, Kolkata.
This event played a tribute to the celebrations and enthusiasm that is experienced by people on account of International Women’s Day. Students of Sociology Department, B.Com and M.Com participated in large numbers. A total of 39 students and 5 faculty members were part of this outreach activity. The event took off with the opening speech of Smt. Atreyee Ganguly, senior faculty member of the commerce section. It was then followed by a song by a student of the Sociology department. The next event on the list was a dance performance followed by word games, quiz, a skit depicting the real sufferings and disparities that women face all throughout their lives. The inmates of Shanti Rani Rainbow Home also participated enthusiastically. They showcased their talent in the form of singing and dancing performances. Also, they were quick in responding to word games and quiz.
The last event was the ‘ramp show’ performed by the students of Department of Sociology. The ramp unfolded the fact that women are represented in all spheres of life. On one hand they are Doctors treating people with compassion, on the other they are business leaders in command positions. They are political statesmen and also accomplished players.
The ramp show marked the essence of the event that given an opportunity women can prove equal to men in all respects thus leading to’ equal world is an enabled world.’ Lastly the students distributed chocolates, cakes and stationery items to the inmates of Shani Rani Rainbow Home. Overall it was a wonderful and enriching experience for the students as well as the teachers.
