No. of Participants: 34 participants (all are faculty members of different colleges under University of Calcutta).

Objective of the event:The primary objectiveis to enhance the academic and pedagogical competencies of undergraduate Chemistry faculty in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Calcutta University Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF). The programme aims to:

  1. a) Familiarizing faculty members with the structure, objectives, and academic requirements of the CU CCF-based UG Chemistry syllabus,
  2. b) Strengthening innovative and student-centric teaching-learning methodologies suitable for undergraduate cross platform Chemistry
  3. c) Developing effective strategies for outcome-based teaching, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary approaches in accordance with NEP.

Brief description of the event: The Department of Chemistry, The Bhawanipur Education SocietyCollege, successfully organized Five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Strengthening Teaching- Learning and Evaluation Processes in UG Chemistry: Adapting to NEP based on Calcutta University (CU) CCF Syllabus”in collaboration with The UGBOS (Chemistry), University of Calcutta  and Physical Chemistry Teachers’ Forum (PCTF), West Bengal in association with IQAC and Faculty Development Committee, The Bhawanipur Education Society College on July 21-25, 2026. The programme was designed to provide faculty members with an academic platform to strengthen their understanding of the CU CCF-based UG Chemistry curriculum and the teaching-learning and evaluation processes aligned with NEP. The FDP focused on promoting effective and contemporary approaches to undergraduate Chemistry education and encouraged academic interaction and sharing of teaching practices among participating faculty members.

The programme began on 21 July 2026 (Day 1) with an inaugural session where dignitaries and faculty members delivered addresses to the audience, followed by number systems by Dr. Kinshuk Banerjee, root-finding techniques by Dr. Sukanya Chakraborty, and regression methods by Dr. Rahul Sharma. On 22 July (Day 2), Prof. Nikhil Guchhait, member of UGBOS (Chemistry) discussed on teaching and evaluation processes in undergraduate chemistry. The focus then shifted to technical sessions, the interpolation using Lagrange’s method, covered by Dr. Partha Biswas, numerical differentiation and integration by Dr. S.S. Riaz, solving ordinary differential equations by Dr. Subhasree Ghosh. The Fourier series and Fourier transforms was discussed by Dr. Arnab Gangopadhyay, and practical Excel-based experiments conducted by Dr. Partha Biswas and Dr. Priyotosh Dutta. The third day, 23 July (Day 3), was dedicated entirely to Python programming, started with the basics such as modules, loops, logic, and functions, and continuing into data structures. The first day training was conducted by Dr. Abhijit Kar Gupta and Dr. Arnab Gangopadhyay. On 24 July (Day 4), participants explored advanced computational tools, elementary ideas with NumPy arrays and vectorized functions in the morning and then moved to data visualization using Matplotlib in the afternoon. The session was conducted by Dr. Kishore Mukhopadhyay and Dr. Arnab Gangopadhyay. The final day, 25 July (Day 5), emphasized numerical methods and problem-solving through coding with the SciPy module, Conducted by Dr. Abhijit Kar Gupta and Dr. Kishore Mukhopadhyay. An assessment on the whole course was conducted. There was a feedback session and the FDP was concluded with the valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution.

Outcome of the event: The key outcomes of the programme were:-

  1. a) Faculty members gained a better understanding of the structure, objectives, learning outcomes, and credit framework of the Calcutta University CCF UG Chemistry syllabus.
  2. b) The participants acquired details of newly introduced syllabus of Semester III, VI, VII and semester VIII. The study material presented in the FDP will help the numerous students of different colleges to cope up with the new syllabus.
  3. c) Participants developed greater competence in adopting student-centric, experiential, and outcome-based teaching-learning methodologies,
  4. d) Faculty members were equipped with effective approaches for continuous, formative, and competency-based assessment and evaluation
  5. e) The FDP provided a platform for academic interaction, exchange of ideas, sharing of best practices, and collaborative learning among Chemistry educators, and
  6. f) Faculty members developed practical strategies for improving the quality, effectiveness, and inclusiveness of undergraduate cross platform Chemistry education.
