Brief description of the activity
The Department of Political Science organized an academic field trip and excursion for the students of Semester 7 on 12 August 2026,.As part of the visit, the students visited Lok Bhavan, West Bengal, where they viewed the exhibition on Bharat’s National Freedom Movement titled “Celebrating Freedom through Bengal.” The exhibition, organized by Lok Bhavan, presented important aspects of Bengal’s contribution to India’s national freedom movement through historical materials and displays. Following the visit to Lok Bhavan, the students proceeded to the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata, where they visited the museum and explored its rich collection of historical artefacts, documents, paintings, photographs, and other materials relating to the history of Bengal and India. The visit provided students with an opportunity to engage with historical sources and understand the political, social, and cultural developments that shaped the region.
Outcome of the activity
The programme successfully supplemented classroom teaching through experiential and heritage-based learning. It encouraged students to observe, analyse, and reflect upon historical events from a broader political perspective. The visit also fostered greater interest in history, political institutions, nationalism, and India’s freedom movement.
