“Great literature transcends time.”

On 30th June 2026, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised an interactive literary session on the theme “Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and His Relevance in Our Contemporary World” from 10:45 a.m. onwards at the College Library.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the anchor, who introduced the guest speaker, Ms. Anchita Ghatak, a renowned translator and author. The gathering was then addressed by the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, who welcomed the audience and felicitated the guest speaker before the session officially began.

Ms. Anchita Ghatak delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture on the enduring relevance of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s literary works in contemporary society. Through her insightful observations, she highlighted how his novels continue to resonate with readers by addressing themes of social reform, human emotions, gender, and morality that remain significant even today.

The session was further enriched by several faculty members. Prof. Soumyajit Chandra from the Department of English, Prof. Sampa Sinha Basu from the Department of Bengali, and Prof. Vasundhara from the Department of Hindi shared their perspectives on Sarat Chandra’s literary legacy and the impact of his writings across different languages and generations.

Students also played an active role in the discussion. Md. Nawaaf Ali and Sourin Bhattacharya, both Semester II students, presented their thoughts on the film adaptations of Sarat Chandra’s stories and the central themes reflected in his novels.

The interactive nature of the session allowed students and faculty members to engage directly with the guest speaker, making the discussion both informative and intellectually stimulating.

Lastly, ENACT, the Theatre Collective of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, presented a brief yet impactful theatrical performance as a tribute to the timeless literary contributions of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Champa Srinivasan. Overall, the session proved to be a memorable literary experience that deepened the audience’s appreciation for one of India’s greatest novelists and reaffirmed the relevance of his works in today’s world.
