The Department of Business Administration at The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata, successfully organised an Industrial Visit to Century Ply Industries, Joka on 2nd May 2026.The visit provided 39 students from different semesters with a valuable opportunity to step beyond classroom learning and experience the real-world operations of the plywood and laminate industry. The students were accompanied by faculty members Prof. Ananya Ghosh, Prof. Siddharth Chakravorty, Prof. Moumita Acharya, Prof. Dwaipayan Nag, and Prof. Srijani Sarkar.
To make the experience more interactive and effective, students were divided into groups of three. Each group was guided by two mentors from Century Ply along with faculty members from the college. The visit began with a warm welcome from the company officials, creating a friendly and engaging atmosphere. This was followed by a brief introduction from the faculty members about the purpose of the visit. Soon after, the Century Ply team gave an insightful presentation on the company’s journey, its leadership in the market, diverse product range, and strong commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The most exciting part of the visit was the guided tour of the factory. Students got a first- hand look at how plywood, laminates, and decorative veneers are manufactured. Watching raw materials transform into finished products made the entire process much more relatable and interesting. They also learned how laminates are produced using four different types of paper, gained knowledge about the classification, and distribution of plywood according to quality standards.
The tour covered several important stages of production, including log peeling, veneer preparation, glue application, cold pressing, hot pressing, sanding, finishing, and quality control. Students actively participated throughout the visit by taking notes, asking thoughtful questions, and interacting with the company representatives. They also learned about the role of automation, workplace safety measures, and the eco- friendly practices followed by the company.
At the end of the visit, students were asked to fill out feedback forms shared by the company. This was followed by an interactive discussion between the managers. students, and faculty members, where feedback and observations were shared, making the experience even more meaningful.
The visit concluded with all the accompanying professors delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks to the management and staff of Century Ply Industries for their warm hospitality and valuable guidance.
Overall, the Industrial Visit was an enriching and memorable experience for everyone involved. It successfully helped students connect theoretical classroom concepts with practical industry operations and offered them valuable insights into the corporate world. The event was well-organised and smoothly executed by the Department of Business Administration.
